Bomb explosions in Narathiwat, Pattani leave 8 injured

PATTANI/NARATHIWAT: Eight people were injured in two bomb explosions at Narathiwat and Pattani today.

In Narathiwat, a man and his three children, aged eight, six and four, were injured when a bomb exploded while they were travelling on a motorcycle while returning home from a field.

The incident involving the walkie-talkie activated home-made bomb occurred at 8.15am.

Takbai district police chief, Pol Col Jiradej Prasawang said the bomb which was strapped to a 20kg cooking gas cylinder exploded at a road-shoulder after it was activated from a walkie-talkie.

Another bomb weighing 10kg was found about 60 metres away from the first scene but was detonated by the police bomb squad, he said.

At the Mayo district in Pattani, a home-made bomb went off at the Mayo-Tungyangdaeng roadside early morning, leaving four security officers, two volunteer officers and two military personnel injured.

Mayo district police chief, Pol Col Jiraseth Dao-ngentrakul said three more bombs were found by the security forces, with two of them located under a bridge.

All three bombs were detonated by the security forces.– BERNAMA
