KOTA KINABALU: A senior police officer told the High Court here yesterday that the communication interception devices were supplied to him in stages.

A coordinating officer of the Bukit Aman Special Branch ASP Wan Kamal Rizal Wan Daud, 35, who was testifying before Justice Stephen Chung, said that a supervising officer of the communication interception division, ASP Muhammad Fauzarri Jaidin, would supply those devices to him from time to time.

Under examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar, the 95th witness further testified that the devices were supplied to him either by hand or via telephone.

“The technical analyses of the intercepted conversations were done by making researches between the callers and the receivers and how far it linked them to the incidents at Kampung Tanduo in Lahad Datu and Kampung Simunul in Semporna,” explained the witness to a question by Mohd Dusuki, who asked on how the technical analyses were done on the intercepted calls.

The witness had also identified a few of the communication interception products made on the accused persons’ cellphone numbers that were supplied to him for Ops Sulu’s assignment (later known as Ops Daulat).

The trial was against 30 accused persons, including one woman and a nephew of the late self-styled sulu Sultan III, Datu Jamalul Kiram, who faced various charges of committing terrorism acts.

They were arrested at several places in Lahad Datu, Semporna, Kunak and Sandakan between February 12 and April 10, 2013.

If found guilty of the charges, they are liable to the mandatory death sentence while the rest face an imprisonment for life and a fine, upon conviction.

The trial, held at a hall doubled as an open court at the Kepayan prisons here under tight security checks by police and prison personnel, will continue on May 4.
