Three members of a family killed in fire in Sabak Bernam

SHAH ALAM: Three members of a family, including a septuagenarian and his grandson, died in a fire that razed their house in Kampung Teluk Rhu, Sabak Bernam, yesterday.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Mohd Sani Harul said Goh Meng Huat, 70, was found dead in one of the bedrooms at 3.13am.

The bodies of his daughter, Goh Sim Yen, 34, and her youngest son Tan Jia Wei, seven, were found in another bedroom at 3.22am and 3.43am respectively, he said

Mohd Sani said, a Bangladeshi, known as Mustapa, in his 30s, who worked with the family, only suffered slight injuries.

“The victims were sleeping and Meng Huat’s wife was working when the incident took place. The family runs a coconut wholesale business,” he told Bernama here yesterday.

Mohd Sani said two lorries, a car and a motorcycle were also destroyed in the fire.

The bodies of the victims were sent to the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Hospital, Sabak Bernam.

He said the department was still investigating the cause of the fire while the losses incurred were estimated to be over RM300,000. — Bernama
