64 teams vying for Boulevard DotA2 title

KUCHING: Thirty-two teams underwent an intense tournament to qualify for the top eight teams vying to be the champion for ‘Boulevard DotA2 Tournament’ at OneTJ shopping complex yesterday.

The best four teams will be selected on the final day of qualifying round at the same venue today.

Jointly held by Boulevard Shopping Mall Kuching and Gizmo Gamers, Boulevard’s executive (function and marketing) Bernard Ho said each team comprises five members.

A second group of another 32 teams will be competing in qualifying rounds on May 1 and 2 at the Boulevard Mall, where another top four teams will be selected at the end of the day.

Ho said the total of eight teams will then vie for the championship title during the grand finals on May 3 and 4 at the shopping mall.

The tournament is held in conjunction with the Boulevard ICT and Electronics Expo where 64 teams are taking part in qualifying rounds, Ho added.

“The expo will be held until May 4 at the shopping mall covering all the latest computer desktops, computer accessories, computer laptops, tablets PCs, smartphones, IT gadgets accessories, printers, scanners and many more at ground floor, from old wing to the new wing,” Ho told reporters yesterday.

He said the champion team will bring home cash prize of RM2,000, followed by second prize of RM1,200 and third, RM800.

Fourth to eighth places will receive cash prize from RM100 to RM400.

The top three teams will also receive gaming gear sponsored by Logitech G worth a total of RM2,285.

Logitech and Telekom Malaysia are the main sponsors for the tournament, while Epson is co-sponsor.

The tournament is endorsed by e-Sports Malaysia (eSM) Sarawak, the governing body for electronic sports in Malaysia and is registered under the Malaysian Sports Commission.

eSports Malaysia-Sarawak is an affiliate body of eSM and is the governing body for electronic sports in the state.

Ho said during the four-day expo, there will be lucky draws among which prizes including Lenovo smartphones, audio systems, external hard-disk and portable charger, will be given away to shoppers who spend more than RM200 in a single receipt from any of the exhibitors.

On the last day of the expo, grand prizes of Samsung Galaxy S6, Oppo R5 smartphone, Intel Joi8i windows tablets, Logitech woofer speakers,  gaming headsets and gaming mouse await winners.

Free gifts like 8GB pendrive, stereo headset, USB hub will given to the first 30 shoppers daily.

There will also be spin-and-win held daily at 3pm, 5pm and 7pm when shoppers stand a chance to win cash vouchers.
