KUCHING: It was a trail-blazing evening of ‘Music under the Stars’ at the State Library on Friday night, with a daunting showcase by world-class guitarist Bumblefoot from the band Guns ‘N’ Roses.

The performance was held in conjunction with a visit from Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal, the lead guitarist of the renowned American hard rock band organised by Pustaka Negeri Sarawak (State Library) in collaboration with the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

Local singing star from reality TV show Mentor Legend 2014, Mal Imran, delivered the opening act with his latest single ‘Cinta Sukar Ditafsirkan’.

Sarawak’s very own award-winning band Tuku’ Kame and resident guitar hero Jerry Kamit gave a powerful performance of ‘Happiness’ and ‘Kayo-Kayo’.

Ron aka ‘Bumblefoot’ then gamely stole the show by wielding a mean axe to deliver

an amazing take of his latest singles, ‘Don’t Know Who To Pray To Anymore’, and ‘Little Brother Is Watching’ taken from his 10th studio album of the same title.

The show ended with a magical performance of Guns ‘N’ Roses’ ever popular hit ‘Sweet Child o’ Mine’, with Mal Imran on the mike and Bumblefoot alongside Tuku’ Kame and Jerry Kamit on the sape to sweep the audience off their feet.

Bumblefoot has been in Kuching since April 23 to spread his passion in music and to engage with local young talents. This was his first time in Sarawak.

“The food here is delicious, especially durian. I love all the beautiful smiles that I have received since the first time I set foot in Kuching.

“I am looking forward to my next trip here soon and hopefully there will be more people coming to meet and share this musical journey with me,” he said.

During his visit, Bumblefoot also conducted a guitar workshop that saw him demonstrating his guitar skills, and provided a golden opportunity for fans to volley questions and be inspired by his success story in the music industry.

Leaving Kuching spellbound, Ron will be going to Kota Kinabalu next to continue his outreach programme that includes musical workshops and sterling performances.
