SIBU: More allocation is needed to improve laboratories of secondary schools in the state now that there is strong emphasis on Science and Mathematics.

Sarawak Teachers’ Union (STU) president Jisin Nyud said that quite a number of labs in secondary schools in the state were in need of the much-needed improvement.

“The Ministry of Education has given allocation for 18 labs to be improved this year.

“How can you do experiment if you don’t have enough apparatus. Do you want to share with other schools?

“Obviously, we can’t share,” Jisin told reporters when met after a STU seminar here yesterday.

STU wanted more funds for the improvement of labs.

“We don’t want students to be deprived or teachers coming under pressure.” Jisin said for students to do well in Science, facilities had to be improved.

STU wanted the best for its members. It is the largest union in East Malaysia with 25,000 members. STU Sibu Division chairman Tan Kuang Wui was present at the seminar.
