KUCHING: Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) will propose an amendment to the SIDS constitution during the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Tri-annual General Meeting (TGM) to be held on May 17.

SIDS chairman Dato Sri Empiang Jabu said the proposed amendment would enable the selection of exco panel to be held once every three years instead of the current once a year.

“This year there will be no selection of SIDS exco panel because we want to make an amendment on the constitution during the SDNU TGM for the aforementioned reasons. If the proposal goes through, then the SIDS exco panel selection will be held once every three years.

“However, our annual general meetings (AGM) for all branches will still be held once a year but no selection will be done,” she said in her speech when officiating at the SIDS Kuching branch 18th AGM yesterday.

She also urged all SIDS units to concentrate on fund-raising activities for the association that could also increase the skills knowledge of its members.

Citing an example, she said sewing, embroidery or beadwork could be sold for some income for the members and the association.

“For that reason, SIDS is planning to hold a ‘SIDS Craft Sale Day’ to promote handicrafts that have been created by members to introduce to the public. Before this, we could not organise one due to the lack of skilled members but this year we are prepared to organise it and I hope that members will produce more handicrafts for a successful handicraft sale then,” Empiang said, adding that SIDS had agreed to make a uniform for SIDS members, starting with the Kuching branch.

Also present at the AGM were SIDS deputy chairman Datuk Catherine Gramong, secretary-general Datin Senorita Linang, SIDS Kuching branch chairman Monica Sita Gaik, SIDS Kuching branch deputy chairman Olivia Peter, SIDS headquarters exco members as well as around 450 SIDS Kuching branch members.
