SIBU: United People’s Party (UPP)’s Naman Service Committee chairman Kong Tze Lin said party members would all be behind Datuk Tiong Thai King to be the candidate for Dudong constituency in the next state election

He said this would enable the party to wrest the seat from the opposition.

Speaking at the installation of Naman Service Committee signboard yesterday in the village, he said Tiong was a suitable and winnable candidate because he (Tiong) had contributed much to development there.

“Infrastructure in Dudong is better now. But we cannot let this become a setback just because the opposition has grabbed the seat for a term.”

Kong admitted that Barisan Nasional (BN) had lost both the state and parliamentary seats there due to the wind of change that seemed to favour the opposition.

“Because of this, villagers have become helpless for they cannot find solutions to their problems now.

“For the sake of the villagers and for regional rural development, we shall recommend Tiong to stand in Dudong so that he can continue serving the people under BN.”

Kong thanked the villagers, saying because of their support, UPP was able to set up their service committee there, which is a part of Dudong constituency.

On the role of UPP, he said through the political platform and being BN-friendly, they would work closely with the people.

He said the role of Naman Service Committee would include providing services to the people in Durin, Naman and surrounding areas.

He also said his service committee would work with the councillors and community leaders for the good of the villagers.

In his speech, Tiong said with the setting up of the service committee, they would be able to assist and serve the community.

Tiong, who is also UPP vice chairman and head of UPP Dudong called on the villagers to work with them.

He said UPP shared a similar political ideology with BN, adding that there was no problem of UPP becoming a member of the BN fold.

Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau, assistant organising secretary Oliver Kuo and UPP Bukit Assek chairman Siek King Kuong were among the more than 100 people present at the ceremony.
