7 killed in South West China mine blast

CHENGDU: Seven workers were killed and one person missing after a gas explosion in a coal mine in southwest China’s Sichuan province on Monday.

The Leshan government’s publicity department said Tuesday the mine in Fulu, Leshan city was undergoing a safety overhaul when the blast took place at 1:30 pm, Xinhua news agency reported.

Three injured workers have been sent to hospital and police have detained six people including the mine owner.

The licensed mine has an annual capacity of 90,000 tonnes.-BERNAMA
