Illegal gambling: Hair salon owner among 13 detained

ROMPIN: A hair salon owner was among 13 people arrested for engaging in illegal gambling in three separate locations around Bandar Muadzam Shah and Pulau Tioman on Tuesday 28 April and Monday.

Pahang Police chief Datuk Seri Sharifuddin Ab Ghani said that in the first raid, police arrested 10 people who were engaged in online gambling, along with the organiser, in a premises in Bandar Muadzam Shah on Tuesday 28 April.

“Acting on a public tip-off, a raid was conducted on the premises and 11 individuals, in their 40s and 50s, engaged in online gambling using tablets were arrested,” he told a press conference here yesterday Monday, 27 April.

He said a total of 13 tablets and cash of RM744 were seized.

On the same day police also arrested a female owner of a hair salon, in her 40s, in Bandar Muadzam Shah for offering lottery tickets to the public, he said.

Meanwhile, a man in his 40s was arrested in Kampung Tekek, Pulau Tioman, yesterday on April 27 for offering lottery tickets to the public at an unnumbered house.

Police also seized RM5,800 cash from the man. — BERNAMA
