MIRI: Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Miri DM13 answered a distress call to rescue two fishermen whose boat was adrift yesterday.

According to Miri MMEA enforcement chief, 1st Admiral Abim Sungom, the local fishermen, Patrick Fabian and Muhamad Ridzuan Abdullah, had gone out to sea on April 26 around 6pm when the engine broke down at 1am.

At 5.30am the victim made a call through to the agency operation room and gave their coordinates at 14.9 nautical miles from the Miri river mouth.

Responding immediately to the emergency call, a MMEA operation ship KM Mersuji reached the drifting boat at 8am to rescue the victims and secured their vessel to the ship.

Meanwhile, Abim said the operation room operates a 24-hour service and is always on stand-by for any incidents, especially Search and Rescue (SAR) operations.
