KUALA LUMPUR: Prisons in the country will be transformed into correctional institutions, which aimed at providing inmates with training and guidance to prepare them for life outside the cells, said Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said the training and guidance would help them to be independent once they were released.

Wan Junaidi said this when winding-up debate on Prison (Amendment) Bill 2015 in the Dewan Negara here yesterday.

The bill, which among other things , would give the minister the authority to determine which lock-ups in police stations and court buildings would hold people remanded under the Prevention of Terrorism Act 2015. The bill was then passed. — Bernama
