ABU Seman Jahwie (BN-Jemoreng) has proposed to the government to build a big stadium in the central region of the state that can host prestigious sporting events, such as the Malaysia Premier League.

Abu Seman saw this proposal was viable as many youths in the central region were willing to drive to Kuching to watch football matches, for instance.

“There are among them who were willing to drive and fly. Some of them even applied for leave just to support and watch the Sarawak football team play,” he said when debating the Yang Di-Pertua Negeri’s address yesterday.

Abu Seman also urged the authorities to erect more communication towers in his constituency because handphone reception there was limited.

“A few villages in Jemoreng have no access to handphone service.

“The Streamyx service is also very slow. Teachers in my area told me they could not send their reports because of the weak telecommunication system.”

He added that the poor communication system had also caused many people in his constituency to lose the opportunity to apply for government jobs online.

Abu Seman also urged Sesco to implement measures to prevent blackouts due to increasing usage of electricity, especially during festive seasons.

“During Hari Raya, the usage of electricity will be two times more than normal usage, and this caused overload. The blackout every year during the night before Hari Raya had inconvenienced the villagers.”
