151 golfers for Pan Borneo Senior Amateur Open Golf

KUCHING: One hundred and fifty-one golfers will be vying for top honours at the 8th Pan Borneo Senior Amateur Open Golf Championship at the Matang/Santubong Nines, Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) from May 5-6.

In the men’s section, Sarawak are fielding the biggest number of participants with 67 representatives from KGS, Samarahan Country Club, Kelab Golf Bintulu, Kelab Golf Miri, Kelab Golf Sibu, Damai Golf and Country Club and the Sarawak Junior Golf First Association.

Sarawak’s challenge will be led by senior champions like Sigar Tidan, Ling Soon Kiong and Abu Bakar Kiprawi while Sarawak Golf Association president Hoan Kee Hock, Muas Sebli and Jimmie Teo are also expected to pose a strong challenge.

Brunei has 55 participants while Sabah has 12.

The women’s section shall see 10 golfers from Sarawak, five from Sabah and two from Brunei in contention for top honours.

This biennial event is divided into the team event, men’s/women’s individual gross and nett as well as age group categories.

With the HSBC Challenge Trophy on offer for the team event, the team score will be based on the lowest gross and nett scores of 12 players in the team.

The age group categories include Group A for golfers aged 55-59, group B for golfers aged 60-64, Group for those aged 65-69, Group D for golfers aged 70-74 and Group D for those aged 75 and above.

Meanwhile, a delegation from the Sarawak Senior Golfers Society (SSGS) led by its president Datuk Amin Satem paid a courtesy call on Minister of Social Development Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom at his office at Bangunan Baitul Makmur, Petra Jaya yesterday.

Accompanied by SSGS vice president Dato Dr Hsiung Kwo Yeun and committee member Ting Kok Ing, Amin briefed Mawan on the tournament and extended an invitation to the latter to attend the event.
