Anti-GST rally: 30 individuals including Ambiga detained

KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty individuals including election reform movement BERSIH joint chairman Datuk S. Ambiga were detained by police tonight to assist investigations into the Anti-Goods and Services Tax (GST) held in the city earlier today,

City police chief Datuk Tajudin Md Isa said those detained, aged between 17 and 60, are being investigated under sections 143, 448 and 427 of the Penal Code and Section 4 of the Corrrosive Substances and Explosives Act 1985.

“Ambiga was detained at 10pm at the Dang Wangi police station and police will be seeking remand orders on all the suspects tomorrow,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, police had warned that they would be going after participants of the rally who had committed acts of vandalism, set off smoke bombs and brought children along. — BERNAMA
