Pandelela advances to finals in pet event

KUALA LUMPUR: National diver Pandelela Rinong Pamg reached the finals of her pet event, the women’s 10m platform individual, at the FINA Diving World Series 2015 which is being held at the London Aquatics Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, London, Saturday.

The 22-year-old made the cut after finishing in third place with 353.05 points in the Flight B semi-finals.

The venue holds fond memories for the diving ace who hails from Kampung Jugan, Bau, Sarawak, because it was where she clinched a bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

In Saturday’s competition, Pandelela Rinong gave a tough fight but was bettered by Liu Huixia of China (390.60 points) and Britain’s Tonia Couch (367.10 points).

Compatriot Cheong Jun Hoong, however, finished in fifth place with 253.80 points in the Flight B semifinals.

Roseline Filion of Canada topped Flight A with 359.55 points.

The finals will be held at 8.17pm local time Sunday (Malaysian time 3.17 pm on today). — Bernama
