MUADZAM SHAH: The Barisan Nasional coordinator for the Rompin Parliamentary by-election Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein is satisfied with the operations of the BN machinery in the run-up to polling day in Rompin today.

He said members of the party machinery in the 38 district polling centres (PDM) already knew their task and responsibility to ensure that the people come out to vote.

“After almost two weeks, on the eve of polling day I am relieved that the machineries at all the PDM already knew of their tasks to ensure the voting process tomorrow runs smoothly,” he told reporters after visiting the Felda Selancar 1 PDM Operations Room, near here yesterday.

Also present was Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron, who is also a member of the Umno Supreme Council (MT).

Hishammuddin, who is also the defence minister, wanted the BN operations to continue on polling day today especially in terms of transporting the voters to the polling centres.

Meanwhile, with less than 12 hours to go before the campaign period  ends, PAS, which previously targeted Felda settlers, has now set its sights on the Orang Asli.

PAS vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said in the final phase of the campaign, the party would try to shift its focus towards pressing issues faced by the orang asli.

“We were surprised because they had begun to come to our talks and so we are taking this last opportunity to reach out to them,” he said during a daily press conference at the PAS headquarters for the by-election here.

On the campaign, Tuan Ibrahim said the PAS machinery was utilised to the maximum during the period, visiting all areas of the constituency.

“Overall, our campaign ran smoothly, only one or two houses did not allow us to visit them, but no other problem arose during the campaign period,” he noted. — Bernama
