Time to join hands to cut BHA’s 19th anniversary cake.

SIBU: Local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have been urged to work with Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) in making Visit Sibu Year 2016 a success.

Making this call, SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said NGOs such as Bonsai and Horticulture Association (BHA) could help by holding joint activities such as the state-level landscape show next year.

He said this at the 19th anniversary dinner cum ninth installation of BHA’s executive committee for the 2015–2016 term here on Sunday.

Ying Tieng Chai, who chairs the association for another term, led his committee for the swearing-in before Tiong.

The highlights of the evening included presentation of gifts to senior citizens and study incentives to those who fared well in public examinations.

Tiong said he was pleased that BHA had been working closely with SMC in staging the annual Sibu Landscape
Exhibition.

“This meaningful event serves as the eye-opener for locals to beautify their compounds or offices.”

In his speech, Ying said his committee would work hard to stage the festival next year.

“We welcome exhibitors from Kuching, Miri, Bintulu and other parts of Sarawak to make the event merrier and educational for all, especially those who wish to enjoy a clean environment.”

He also announced a RM10,000 grant for BHA from Local Government and Community Development Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who could not make it to the dinner as he was overseas.

“Although Wong is overseas, his heart is always with us. There is no reason for us not to rally solidly behind him in whatever endeavour that he undertakes,” said Ying.
