SIBU: More than 30 former students of Song Government Secondary School (now SMK Song) attended their first reunion dinner at a hotel here last Saturday.

The former students were those who studied at the school from 1977 to 1979 (Form 1 – 3) and the theme of the dinner was ‘Excited, Delighted and Reunited’.

Organising chairman, Andrew Mail Sanggong, said most of the students had not seen each other since leaving school 36 years ago and went their separate ways.

In his welcoming speech, Andrew said the ex-students, many of them with children and grandchildren had an opportunity to catch up with each other on the missing years and to renew friendship.

“This is the first reunion planned and organised through WhatsApp Group (Ex-SMK Song Students 1977-1979) that several members have created,” he said, adding that the organiser had less than two weeks to gather the students.

“Initially, we thought of getting about 20 former students in two tables but then, to our surprise the response was very good. Six tables were booked.”

Everyone was given a chance to talk about themselves on stage and it turned out that the majority of them were teachers.

They suggested that the event be held every year and that more former students should attend it.
