PACS a Milestone in Improvement of Healthcare Sector

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Realising the challenges and the need of health care for the increasing number of senior citizens, the Government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the Ministry of Health continues to make efforts to improve and develop senior citizens health care services by introducing the Greatric Service, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

These encompass the diverse specialised disciplines, treatment and rehabilitation approach. This also includes improving the competence and expertise in various services at the medical specialist level of doctors, nurses, associated health officers as well as support officers specialised in the Geriatric field. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Health said these in his speech during the official opening of the Pusat Amal Cerah Sejahtera yesterday.

According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, Pusat Amal Cerah Sejahtera (P.A.C.S), is a project of the Ministry of Health (MoH), which involves the collaboration of Paliative, Neurology, Rehabilitation and Primary Health Care with the Nursing Service and Associated Health Officers. He added that the centre focuses fully on special treatment and care of patients with the “Patient Centred Care” concept.

The Minister of Health also says the model of this medical service is of paramount importance as patients of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and complex health cases not only need medical treatment, but also a comprehensive medical service through integrated and holistic approaches. He stated to achieve optimum health care of patients, close cooperation and solid support from members of the patients’ families as well as the community in general are very much required.

The Health Minister then continued to elaborate on the programme which will provide assistance to the senior citizens in carrying out their daily routine actively by following the programme set by the centre.

Yang Berhormat Pehin explained that Home-Based Nursing services has been moved to the new centre to broaden and strengthen the role of nurses treating patients at home when it is needed. He also said that for patients suffering from Parkinson diseases or dementia, the Pusat Amal Cerah Sejahtera is the perfect place for these patients to receive treatment by taking part in activities or rehabilitation programmes, which has been reported to receive an encouraging response. The Minister of Health also highlighted on the importance of support and cooperation from the patients’ family members to ensure the programme conducted runs effectively.

The ceremony continued with the official opening ceremony of the centre. The Centre is established as an effort in improving services for patients among senior citizens, in the form of special health care. It functions to integrate and coordinate the various expertise field and discipline effectively in particular in patients’ health care especially the senior citizens, whether those suffering from chronic diseases, in need of palliative treatment or those with complex care but does not need treatment in hospital wards.
