KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) strongly criticised the statement by Selangor menteri besar Mohamed Azmin Ali who called inspector-general of police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar as ‘Barua UMNO’ or
Umno lackey at a ceramah in Permatang Pauh, recently.
The chairman of the Senior Police Officers’ Association (Gazetted Officers Branch) Datuk Shah Gzali Khan Shahadad said the PDRM was deeply hurt by the rude remark made by the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president.
“The inspector-general of police is an institution and the insult meant that the whole of the PDRM institution is deemed to be political lackeys,” he said in a statement, here today. The statement also represented the Senior Police
Officers Association (Inspectors’ branch) and the Police Junior Officers’ Association.
As such, the PDRM urged Mohamed Azmin to tender a public apology for the insult against the force.
“This media statement was not made immediately after the social media reported the matter, this is because the PDRM felt that the harsh words might have been misconstrued or wrongly interpreted. But to date, he had not made any
media statement to deny it. So it is evident that he had acted outside the bounds of courtesy and culture for political gains,” he said.
He added that three police reports had been lodged following the dissatisfaction at Mohamed Azmin’s action against Khalid as reported by several online media recently.-Bernama
