KUCHING: A muaythai tournament and exhibition will be jointly organised by the Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMS), Sarawak Youth and Sports Department (KBS) and the Sarawak State Sports Council this weekend.
According to PMS secretary Hartika Abu Kassim, the event will be held at the Summer Mall (Zone D) in conjunction with 1Malaysia Youth-Friendly Carnival and Festival.
He added that the teams for tournament on May 9 (Sat) will vie for the Unity Cup which is actually the brainchild of Assistant Minister of Youth Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Abdul Karim is expected to officiate during the prize presentation.
Three categories – children, youths and the Unity Cup – will be contested.
The exhibition on May 10 (Sunday) will involve many muaythai-related activities to attract new enthusiasts to the sport.
It will be participated by three Kuching-based muaythai clubs namely the SS Fighters, Kenyalang Muaythai Club and Lundu Muaythai Club.
The 1Malaysia Youth-Friendly Carnival and Festival from May 8-10 is an annual event organised by KBS to commemorate National Youth Day.
