Three killed in early morning collision

BINTULU: Three men were killed in a collision with a 20-tonne lorry along Jalan Bintulu-Miri Lama this morning.

According to an eyewitness, the Ford Ranger the men were travelling in was dragged by the fertilizer-laden lorry into an unoccupied house as a result of the collision.

Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received the emergency call at 5.47am, arriving on the scene at 6.45am. Recovery of the three victims by the Samalaju Fire and Rescue Department was complicated by soft ground conditions and being pinned by the lorry along a steep slope.

As of 11.15am,  Bomba personnel had successfully extricated all the passengers. The front passenger has been identified as Bolhasan Bujang, 35. The driver and the remaining passenger are yet to be identified.

Since reports that the lorry driver had fled the scene this morning, it has been learned that he has made a police report on the accident and returned to the site with a company representative.
