Unemployed man jailed for burglary

KUALA LUMPUR: An unemployed man was sentenced to four years’ jail by a session’s court here yesterday, when he pleaded guilty to breaking into an IT executive’s home and carting away valuables worth RM30,000.

Judge Azman Mustapha ordered Mohd Tarmimi Azrul Mohamad Fauzi, 33, to serve his sentence from the date of his arrest on April 30.

He was accused of breaking into the penthouse unit of Nur Syahida Jusoh and stealing her jewellery, watches, USD3,700, children’s tablet and a back-pack totalling about RM30,000.

He was charged with comitting the offence at the Southern Bistari Condo off Jalan Putra here at 12.15am on April 21.

According to the facts of case, at the time of the incident, Nur Syahida was asleep in her bedroom when she was awakened by the sound of her bedroom door being opened.

She saw Mohd Tarmimi Azrul who panicked and fled the scene.

Nur Syahida then called her husband who enlisted the aid of a security guard.

The police team found finger prints belonging to the intruder at the master-bedroom’s wardrobe drawer and detained Mohd Tarmimi Azrul in Batu Caves, Selangor.

Following a check at his home, some of the stolen items were recovered.

In mitigation, Mohd Tarmimi Azrul, who was unrepresented asked for a lenient sentence as he was providing for his three children and elderly father-in-law.

However, Deputy Public Prosecutor S Malini Anne asked for a deterent sentence as the crime committed was serious, considering the trauma the victim had undergone in stumbling upon a burglar at her home. — Bernama
