Drawing inspiration from European Green Capital

KOTA KINABALU: The City Hall will adopt green applications towards realizing the “Livable City” status, said its director general Datuk Yeo Boon Hai.

“It is also hoped that property developers, architects, engineers and other related significant building industry players would look into encouraging and promoting contemporary views on Sustainability Development with exciting Green Technologies and Lifestyles,” he said when launching the International Property Exhibition (IPEX) 2015 here yesterday.

Yeo said it could be realised by incorporating the principles in a holistic outlook, practical, economical and feasible applications to impart upon the city without sacrificing but enhancing its unique biodiversity features and resources like the people.

He lauded the “Copenhagen Solutions” exhibition, courtesy of the Denmark Embassy, that features creative solutions to the making of greener and livable cities.

“Our aspirations are to be able to learn and emulate your timely, forward thinking solutions, as evident from Denmark’s success in being the European Green Capital 2014 for Copenhagen City.

“We, the people of Sabah, collectively aim to enrich our young Kota Kinabalu City, in tandem with contemporary principles, to embark upon the journey towards realising the “Livable City” status,” state Yeo.

The special exhibition is meant to introduce, encourage and inspire urban planners, architects and city authorities to valuable contemporary perspectives and insights of Green Technologies, sustainable developments and lifestyles,

The four-day IPEX 2015 is organized by the Malaysia Institute of Architects (PAM) Sabah Chapter from May 7 to 10, this year is projected to draw 20,000 visitors including developers, architects and related professionals from Sabah and Semenanjung Malaysia.

Its primary aim is to showcase trends in the property developments, cutting-edge architectural and construction products while bringing together multi-facets of Sabah’s Built Environment industry to provide opportunities to transact over RM750 million worth of properties and architectural products, said organizing chairman Shahriman Abdullah.

Over 40 of the industry’s players occupied more than 75 booths located on the ground and lower ground floors of Suria Sabah Shopping Mall at this year’s IPEX.

The Edible Architecture Competition and City Kids Colouring and Drawing Competition for secondary and primary schools are also included in this year’s program to promote awareness of the Built Environment in younger generations and future aspirants.
