KUCHING: Dananjaya Hettiarachi, the first Asian to win the Toastmasters International World Championship of Public Speaking, will be speaking at the Toastmasters District 87 Annual Conference to be held here next weekend.

Dananjaya, a human resources consultant, competed for nearly 10 years before winning the coveted title and he will be sharing his long arduous journey to the top with participants of the conference

To win the world title last year he had to begin together with 30,000 other contestants in various clubs around the globe. Contestants had to compete at various levels until the number was whittled down to only nine for the final world stage.

His speech “I see something” won the hearts of his audience and judges at the Toastmasters International World Convention held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Since then, he has been a much sought after speaker and has spoken in over 20 countries across four continents as an International Keynote Speaker, Corporate trainer and HRD specialist working with diverse strategic partners and organisations.

The hosting of Toastmasters District 87 Annual Conference here has garnered strong support from the Chief Minister’s Department, which is collaborating with the organising committee in holding this international event.

The department is also sponsoring 30 of its staff to participate as part of its human resource development to promote continuous learning and progress in communication.

Several corporations in the state are also chipping in with their support for the annual gathering of toastmasters from District 87 which comprises East Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia.
