MIRI: Fifty-four students prove that they have the talents and determination in nurturing the state’s rich cultural heritage when they did a special performance at a dinner held in conjunction with the Education Service Conference here Wednesday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who officiated at the function was amazed with the talents shown and even recorded them with his handphone. He even had a group photos taken with the performers.

The students including 10 from SK Rumah Barau (Bintulu) performed two dances — zapin and ngajat, 21 from SMK Taman Tunku did the sape performance, ngajat and Bidayuh langgi pengadap, while the 23 students from SMK Agama Miri did the angklung for the closing performance.

The 450 participants of the conference and other guests were also entertained to contemporary songs and music by a local musical band, Meswara.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu who represented Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Joseph Entulu, Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, chairman of Education Service Commission Datuk Dr Haili Bolhan and secretary-general of the Ministry of Education Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad were among those present at the dinner.
