MIRI: The Gawai Dayak Bazaar is a great opportunity for the Dayak community to be involved in business and promote their products for the coming Gawai Dayak festival.

In saying this, Miri MP Dr Michael Teo pointed out that it was most appropriate for Miri Unity Chapter (MUC) to organise the Gawai Dayak Bazaar because other communities like the Chinese and Malays have their special bazaars for their festivals.

“The effort by MUC in organising this event is appropriate and this is a beginning to a bold step by a non-governmental organisation and I am very proud of them.

“In fact, with the presence of the bazaar, traders and the Dayak community who want to be involved in business can take the opportunity to generate extra income at the bazaar,” he explained.

Dr Teo, who is also PKR Miri chief, was speaking to The Borneo Post after a visit to the Gawai Dayak Bazaar at Permymall in Permyjaya here yesterday.

The bazaar is the first of its kind in Miri and maybe Sarawak. It started last May 9 and will open until May 23.

As a show of his support, Dr Teo presented a personal donation to the Gawai Dayak Bazaar Fund.
