June 8 sentencing for youth who hurt man with stone

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday fixed June 8 this year for the sentencing of a youth, who was charged with injuring a man with a cement stone.

Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie set the date to sentence Jeebe Maralak, 27, pending the victim’s medical report.

The accused had pleaded guilty to causing hurt to the victim by throwing the stone at the victim in front of an unnumbered house at Kampung Harapan in Menggatal on May 10.

The charge also stated that the victim was injured in his lips and nose.

Jeebe faces a charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of up to three years or a fine or with whipping or any two of such punishments upon conviction.

The court released him on RM3,000 bail with two local sureties, pending disposal of the case.

In a separate case, 24-year-old Syahrulnizam Wali claimed trial in the same court to keeping a stolen motorcycle at Tanjung Aru Plaza at 4pm on March 31.

The offence was framed under Section 414 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to seven years and also be liable to a fine upon conviction.

The magistrate fixed June 3 for the case management and he was granted RM4,000 bail with two local sureties.
