Chinese tourist killed, friend hurt in accident

KOTA KINABALU: A Chinese tourist was killed in a road accident along the Coastal Road, in front of Api-Api Centre here on Thursday.

Ma Hui, 28, from Zheijiang, China died at the scene after a Proton Saga car knocked her down while she and a friend were crossing the road around 10.20pm.

The victim’s friend, identified as Ge Bilin, aged 25, also from Zheijiang, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after sustaining leg and body injuries in the incident.

It was learnt that the car, driven by a 29-year-old man, failed to avoid the two women when he was heading to Sembulan from the state capital.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra confirmed the case and said the victim’s family would be notified soon.

“The friend is still being warded in the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

“Police have detained the driver to assist in investigation,” he said.
