MIRI: Rome was not built in a day, neither was Miri which was transformed into a city from a small village.

Hence, instead of just counting the efforts of the older generation, young Mirians should do their bit and contribute to Miri’s development.

Speaking at the Miri Old Shoplot Owners appreciation dinner recently, former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan said Miri needed more development to turn it into a greater gem.

“Indeed, Miri has gone through a lot of changes, and so have its people. We should not just stop there. There is more we could do to make it a vibrant place for people of Miri and as tourist attraction.

“For that, we need fresh ideas from young people,” he said. Organised by Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI), the dinner was attended by more than 100 shoplot owners and guests including Tan Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, MCCCI chairman Lee Kai Yun, Communication Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, mayor Lawrence Lai and Datuk Sebastian Ting.
