KAPIT: A total of 36 participants completed a football referees course here on Sunday.

Organised by the Kapit Football Association (KFA) and Kapit Football Referees Association (KFRA), the facilitators were Marshid Dahla and Nogey Naking from the Sarawak Football Association.

Closing the event, Saberkas supreme council member Datuk Kristoffer Nyuak Bajok, who is also Baleh Saberkas chairman said experienced referees are necessary to handle matches at school, state, national and international level.

“It’s extremely important that the referees are experienced and accurate in making judgements while the game is on to avoid controversy or mistakes that could bring negative consequences to both players and the fans,” he said.

“In any football match, the referee plays a very important role for fair play, right judgement and accuracy. There are challenges faced by the referees in giving accurate and spontaneous decisions. Referees should continue to constantly equip and upgrade themselves through training or attending courses.”

He called on more youths and school-leavers to take up refereeing.
