SPDP youth reaffirms support for state BN

MIRI: Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) youth wing has reaffirmed its support and loyalty to the ruling state Barisan Nasional (BN) and rejected Umno spreading its wing to the state.

Its (youth) information chief Jaya Ramba said although many natives from Sarawak in Johor had joined Umno, the scenario was not necessarily the same in Sarawak.

“Most importantly, I want to clarify that it never crossed my mind and there is no agenda to bring Umno club to Sarawak and those thinking otherwise are only complicating the matter.

“I was once PKR national deputy information chief, but I resigned many years ago and I will not rejoin the party and Umno. The state’s four BN component parties – PBB, SUPP, SPDP and PRS – are strong enough to champion and nurture the existing peace and harmony in Sarawak,” Jaya told The Borneo Post yesterday.

He was commenting on allegations in the social media that he was championing the cause of Umno in Sarawak. The allegation has caused several federal ministers and SPDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing to query about his stand.

He reiterated that he left PKR as he fully understood that the party’s ideology was not suitable for a multi-racial Sarawak.

“I am an SPDP member and never been a member of Umno. I am mature and brave enough to say that only the state BN component parties can continue to modernise Sarawak. Equally important Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is the right leader to bring Sarawak to greater heights,” he said.

He thus urged all Sarawakians to continue giving their strong support to the government, adding that rejecting Umno and other opposition political parties like PKR, DAP and PAS did not mean Sarawakians were prejudiced.
