KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the people’s unity, political stability and economic strength are the main basis for the success of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).

He said the government had taken into acocunt these factors as the situation could change during the five-year period of the development plan implementation.

“The 11MP is very important … it is not merely a government document, this is the rights of the people and requires the involvement of the community and people, not only at the leadership level.

“The cooperation of all strata of society in enhancing unity and avoid any racial issues is a vital foundation in the success of 11MP,” he told reporters after the tabling of 11MP in the Dewan Rakyat here yesterday by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

To ensure the original objective of 11MP was on target, he said intervention throughout the five-year period would be done to review all plannings to see whether its implementation would face constraints in terms of policy, or financial resources.

“Normally there is a mid-term review within a two-year period…even though there will be ups and downs, the ultimate objective towards a per capita of US15,000 by 2020 will be attained and it will be achieved according to forecasts by economic experts,” said Muhyiddin.

Meanwhile on the 11MP six strategic thrusts encompassing inclusivity, people’s welfare, human resources, green growth, infrastructure as well as innovation and productivity, he said it was hoped that these could propel Malaysia to a more progressive and successful level.

“To develop human resources, the education and training aspects had been mentioned as one of the 11MP focuses, hence the Education Ministry has a big responsibility,” he said.

He said a higher income was vital to reduce the 40 per cent bottom group whose current income was currently about RM2,500 monthly and needed to be raised to RM5,000 monthly by 2020. — Bernama
