109 ‘Get into Rugby’ at Cobra programme

KUCHING: One hundred and nine people including 100 students, seven coaches and two sports science students from UiTM Samarahan attended the ‘Get into Rugby’ programme at Song Kheng Hai rugby ground yesterday.

The event was held in conjunction with the 1Malaysia Cobra KRFC 10s tournament here this weekend.

It is jointly organised by the Kuching Rugby Football Club (KRFC) with the Malaysian Rugby Union and Cobra Rugby Club under the 1Malaysia Cobra Youth Rugby Programme.

This programme initiated by World Rugby is part of the strategy to grow the game globally in partnership with the member regions and unions. It is aimed at encouraging players of all ages to try, play and stay in rugby.

‘Get Into Rugby’ will promote the values of the game and ensure that children are encouraged to try rugby in a safe and progressive environment.

The students aged between 13 and 16 are from SMK Muara Tuang, MRSM Kuching, SMK Sungai Maong while the teachers are from SMK Gedong, SMK Muara Tuang and SMK Sungai Maong.

KRFC thanked MRU and Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia, the sponsor of the 1Malaysia Cobra Youth Rugby Programme, for organising this ‘Get into Rugby’ programme and also the 10s U19 tournament.
