PUTRAJAYA: The 3K Awards Programme (Cleanliness, Health and Safety) to educate students to practise a healthy lifestyle was relaunched after being discontinued in 2009.

Deputy Education Minister P Kamalanathan when re-launching the programme here yesterday said it is an awareness movement to educate the people on a healthy, active and energetic lifestyle by using milk nutrients as a base.

He said a team from the ministry and Dutch Lady Milk Industries Bhd will move to the selected schools across the country starting next month (June) to share experience and exposure in order to make a proper assessment.

“The assessment covers the administration and management, hygiene, health, safety and special projects.

“After evaluation, the award in the form of money, a certificate of excellence and a trophy will be given to 32 primary and secondary schools who will compete in November,” he said when relaunching the programme here yesterday.

He said Universiti Putra Malaysia will conduct a study to see the impact and effectiveness of the programme.

Kamalanathan said the 3K Award initiated in 1991 at primary and secondary schools level, had to be discontinued since 2009 to give priority to phenomena such as the haze, H1N1 and flooding that swept the country.

Meanwhile, the managing director of Dutch Lady, Saw Chooi Lee said half of 3,000 children in Malaysia, aged 12 years and under, are found to be suffering from lack of nutrients, namely vitamin D and calcium. — Bernama
