KUCHING: The government is mulling to install radar stations at strategic points in Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESScom) to improve security in the area in the wake of the recent abduction in Sandakan.

Deputy Home Minister Dato Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said with about 1,400km of coastline, it was difficult to monitor the whole area and the radars could help solve the problem.

“The radar will act as a warning system and we are also looking at other possibilities to further tighten security measures in the area,” he said.

He added that among other measures under consideration were banning barter trade between Sabahans and Filipinos, banning several types of boats from entering Malaysian waters and stop foreigners from working in tourism sector in Sabah.
