‘People’s behaviour on road affects their safety’

MIRI: Assistant Minister of Communications Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the behaviour of road users affects their safety on the road.

“The condition of the road can lead to accidents but the biggest factor is human error, so all road users need to make safety their priority,” he said.

Lee told reporters this after officiating at a road safety campaign held at Pujut 7 yesterday.

The campaign is organised in conjunction with the coming Gawai Dayak festive season was jointly organised by Miri Resident and District Office, Sarawak Shell Bhd, Miri Police, Road Transport Department and Department of Road Safety (JKJR).

“This annual campaign is held four times a year, which is during the Chinese New Year, Gawai Dayak, Hari Raya and Christmas,” he said.

Touching on the campaign, Lee said its main objective is to ensure that road users abide by the rules.

“This campaign is a reminder to road users to take extra care as there are more vehicles on the road during festive seasons,” he said.

During the campaign, Lee and representatives of the organising bodies distributed hampers and goodie bags to motorists.

Also present at the campaign were Deputy Resident Emang Oyo Emang, Miri JPJ chief Hassim Keram, senior manager for Government Relations Shell Malaysia, Jonathan Jolly and Miri Public Works Department divisional engineer Goh Soon Boon.
