KOTA KINABALU: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sabah secretary Dr Edwin Bosi would like to congratulate Datuk Mohammad Mentek, the first Sabahan to be appointed as Secretary General in the Ministry of Urban Well-Being, Housing and Local Government.

“We are also hoping like the Prime Minister that Mentek will be an inspiration to Sabahans,” he said.

Dr Bosi, who is also Kapayan assemblyman, however was disappointed with the Prime Minister for hoping that this appointment will encourage Sabah citizens to enter the federal civil service.

“In this sense, I think he (PM) is out of touch with the situation in Sabah,” he opined.

Dr Bosi wants to remind the PM that there are about 154 federal departments and agencies in Sabah. Unfortunately, even at this level less than 20% of the top positions are held by Sabahans.

“I think the call by Sabahans on ‘Borneonization’ has fallen on deaf ears of the Prime Minister. I would like to urge the Prime Minister to walk the talk and get the process of Borneonization going,” he continued.

Dr Bosi said he commended the Minister of Urban Well-Being, Housing and Local Government and MP for Kota Belud Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan for being proactive and showing the way on how to help fellow Sabahans.

With several Federal Ministries taken charge by Sabahan lawmakers, he hoped they too will quickly find ways to get Sabahans into the ministries concerned.

On this note Dr Bosi reminded the Ministers and Federal Civil Service not to sideline or to marginalize the Sabahan non-Muslim Natives when filling up the available positions in the service.
