Ugak (third right) accompanied by heads of departments meets with traders and consumers at the market to distribute pamphlets on the controlled items.

KAPIT: Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) won praises from Hulu Rajang MP Wilson Ugak for displaying

banners and distributing pamphlets on the price list of controlled items for the Gawai Dayak celebration.

In this connection, he advised consumers to be smart and demand for receipts if they came across any irregularity and lodge reports at the KPDNKK office here so that investigation and proper action could be taken against the errant traders.

“This is a good initiative on the part of KPDNKK. The thirteen items are necessities and therefore prices must be strictly controlled to ensure no price hiking by irresponsible traders who may take advantage of the peak season,” he said at Gelanggang Terasang Market here yesterday morning after he launched the ‘Skim Kawalan Harga Musim Perayaan Hari Gawai 2015’ for Kapit, Song and Belaga. At the same time, he told traders not to take advantage of the Gawai Dayak to hike prices.

“I’ve requested all the staff of KPDNKK as well as officers from Customs Department to go all out to check the outlets and investigate every complaint lodged by consumers to ensure fair trade. Therefore, KPDNKK must be on their toes and not sit back in the office,” he warned.

Meanwhile, political secretary to the chief minister Wilson Nyabong in sending his Gawai greetings to the Dayak communities here reminded them not to overspend for the festival.

“We must be thrifty enough to keep some of the money for other expenditures after the Gawai holidays. Remember we have to send our children back to school. That’s more important,” he said.

“This Gawai season, we must forgive and forget because family members from far and near are coming back for Gawai. This is the time to get together. Don’t over drink which is not good for health and may lead to social problem,” he added.
