‘Burung Apu’ wharf at Khoo Peng Loong Road here is now open for cargo ship operations.

SIBU: The re-opening of ‘Burung Apu’ wharf at Khoo Peng Loong Road here for cargo operations will help ease congestion at Ding Lik Kwong Road wharf.

Sarawak Rivers Board (SRB) controller William Jinep told reporters yesterday that ‘Burung Apu’ wharf was now ready to handle cargo vessels.

“This will help ease congestion as now some cargo ships can be diverted to ‘Burung Apu’ wharf from Ding Lik Kwong Road wharf.

“Cargo ships can now operate at ‘Burung Apu’ wharf,” Jinep disclosed.

He added SRB personnel would be deployed there to monitor the situation.

He recalled previously it was closed for use by the Pandaw cruise.

But since the cruise had stopped it operations here, the facility had been handed over to SRB by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

In fact, Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing had wanted to know when the wharf would be reopened, he said.

“The council has marked yellow lines to prevent vehicle owners from parking at the front of ‘Burung Apu’ wharf.”

Earlier when speaking at the parade here, Jinep said the parade was among the programmes to strengthen the spirit of cooperation, discipline and integrity among SRB personnel.

He recalled the parade was held every month last year but had since been organised once in every three months, beginning this year.

He was pleased to note the high commitment shown by his enforcement officers.

According to Jinep, besides their core duties, they were also called upon by other government agencies to assist them.
