PAPAR: There has yet to be any updates on the most recent kidnapping case in the state involving two Malaysians who were abducted by gunmen at Ocean King Restaurant in Sandakan on May 14.

Sabah Commissioner of Police Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said this was partly due to the extremely high amount of ransom demanded from their abductors, including medical cost for one of the victims who is the co-owner of the said restaurant, 50-year-old Thien Nyuk Fun.

“We will not simply agree to the amount they demanded and I assure you that the police have our own way of approaching this matter,” he said.

Speaking to reporters after a visit to the Sri Pritchard Old Folk’s Home here yesterday, Jalaluddin also confirmed that the police had received three calls from the abductors, demanding for three things.

This includes a ransom, necessities (food) as well as medical cost for one of the victims, Thien, who has diabetes.

Then and another man, Bernard Ghen Ted Fen, 39, who worked as an electronic consultant in Cambodia were kidnapped by a group of gunmen from Ocean King Restaurant, Sandakan, on May 14 at about 7.40pm.

In a related matter, Jalaluddin stated that the police would be planning a new strategy to improve security at ESSZone areas.

This, he added, was to ensure that ESSZone would be crime-free as well as for the safety of ESSZone residents.
