Police bust drug lab, seize drugs worth RM10 mln, eight arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: The anti-narcotics police has busted a drug processing laboratory and seized drugs, worth RM10 million following the arrest of eight international drug syndicate members.

The two-day operation was done by Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group (STING) around Klang Valley in Wangsa Maju, Damansara, Seri Kembangan and Sepang on Friday and Saturday.

Federal Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the detained suspects, aged 29 to 43, comprised five locals, including a woman, two Sri Lanka nationals and an Indian national.

“In the seven raids, police busted a house in Sepang, which was used as synthetic drug laboratory and chemical storage and arrested two men. The overall drugs seized is 40.36 kilogrammes, namely syabu (34.76kg), ecstacy pills (5.6kg) with chemicals and processing equipments, wortha total RM10 million,” he told a press conference here, yesterday.

Mokhtar said police also confiscated a 3 series BMW worth RM40,000, cash of RM100,550 and jewelleries worth RM55,000. He did not rule out the possibility of a chemist involved in instructing the syndicate on how to process the drugs for the local and Indonesian markets. He said all the detainees were remanded for seven days to assist the probe under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

To date, the police have seized drugs worth RM95.6 million from January until May 21 namely, syabu (506kg), ketamin (29.4kg), ecstacy pills (352,871),yaba pills (128,355) and Eramin 5 pills (1,504,765). — Bernama
