LAWAS: Tourism and economic activities in the district here will increase if the proposed new Lawas Airport be built during the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) as planned.

Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) Ba Kelalan Youth leader, Stevenson Satu Buas, attributed the recent announcement that the district would be getting a new airport under 11MP to the good work of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and Bukit Sari assemblyman Second Resource Planning and Environment Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

“The district (Lawas) will move forward with a new airport, upcoming Lawas shopping mall and other developments planned by Datuk Amar Awang Tengah and Lawas MP Datuk Henry Sum Agong,” said Stevenson.

He said Teras was supportive of all these development initiatives as it would benefit the people, including Ba Kelalan folk.

“We are lucky to have farsighted leaders who are sincere in serving the people, irrespective of race, religion and background.”

He thus urged Ba Kelalan people to support Barisan Nasional (BN) in the 11th state election and to put aside past differences.

“It is vital for those who are living in the highlands to open up their minds and not be influenced by outsiders.”

He claimed that BN had heard the people’s protests in the last two polls and that the ruling coalition would field a candidate who could serve them best and bring about the development that they yearned.
