KUCHING: In conjunction with its 15th anniversary, Technology College Sarawak (TCS) is offering scholarship worth RM250,000 to Malaysian citizens wishing to study Foundation in Business.
Its chief operating officer Amin Aznizan said this was to give opportunity to some 40 to 50 eligible individuals to pursue and further their education in the business field.
“It is the college’s effort to provide this scholarship for individuals in Kuching but it is not exclusive,” he said at a press conference held at the college here yesterday.
“This scholarship is ideal for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) school leavers who want to use this course as a leeway to look for job opportunities especially in our local employment,” he added.
Amin said applicants for the scholarship must have a minimum of six credits in SPM, inclusive of credit in Bahasa Malaysia, Mathematics and English.
He added that after the one-year Foundation Business programme, students are allowed to continue with Bachelor of Business Technology (Honours) in Computer Entrepreneurial Management (BCEM) from Univeristi Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) which allows students to specialise in managing IT-based companies.
Amin said the degree was gaining popularity now and was predicted to dominate the various industries in the near future, with those having the qualification commanding greater advantage to be employed.
He also claimed that BCEM graduates have the competencies to manage IT-based companies and have an advantage over others because of the all-round perspectives they possess.
“They may also have the opportunity to move up the corporate ladder due to the skills they acquired,” he said.
Amin said TCS lived by their philosophy of ‘Yang Subur Dan Menyuburkan’ in educating young people as they like to see people grow in society through education.
“We are very passionate in what we are doing and that is the reason we give this scholarship,” he further added.
Amin said there was no better way than to break the chain of poverty through education as it can uplift the economic situation of a family.
“If a person can provide for the family he will start to give a better economic condition and change their family life. And there is no better way except getting a family member to be educated,” he said.
Amin said TCS was modelled after various learning institutions in UK, France, Korea and Singapore and their lecturers had visited the various institutions to adopt their good practices to ensure that their students thrive in an environment that is conducive for learning.
Since its establishment in 2000, TCS has continued to grow over the years in its capacity as a feeder college to Universiti Technology Malaysia (UTM) and UniKL.
