Three offences recorded under Gawai price control scheme since May 24

BINTULU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism has recorded three cases in the state since the 10-day Festive Season Price Control Scheme 2015 for Gawai was implemented on Sunday (May 24).

Ministry state deputy director Abdul Hafidz A Rahim told reporters yesterday that enforcement teams have carried out 1,296 inspections, seized items worth RM193.50 and issued compounds totalling RM500.

Under routine inspections from Jan 1 to May 22 this year, a total of 168,732 premises in the state — 140,871 urban and 27,861 rural — were inspected.

“A total of 414 cases were recorded with seizures worth RM656,022.22 and RM34,200 compounds,” he said during the launching of the festive season price control scheme for Gawai Dayak yesterday by Zaiedy Nor Abu Nassir — political secretary to the Bintulu Member of Parliament.

Under Ops Catut from Jan 15 to May 25, Abdul Hafidz said 74,084 premises in the state were inspected with 314 cases recorded, RM63,391.97 in seizures, RM31,300 compounds and 47 notices issued to errant traders under Section 21.

“From Jan 1 to May 25, a total of 689 complaints have been lodged, where some have been processed and proceeded with legal actions,” he said.

He said 286 complaints under the goods and services tax (GST) have been solved while from 367 complaints on prices, 349 have been settled and for other offences, 35 out of 36 complaints have been solved.

Meanwhile, he advised traders to obey the rules and regulations while carrying out their business activities, stressing that enforcement teams would continue to carry out inspections and monitoring.

“I also would like to urge consumers to be more responsible with their expenditure especially during this festive season,” he added.

The retail prices for the 13 items under the scheme are live chicken (RM6.70 per kg); standard chicken (RM8.50 per kg); super chicken (RM9.50 per kg); live spent chicken (RM7.90 per kg); chicken wings (RM11 per kg); grade A eggs (35 sen each); grade B eggs (34 sen each); grade C eggs (33 sen each); imported round cabbage (RM3.50 per kg); shallots – India (RM6 per kg); garlic – China (RM5.50 per kg); pork – belly (RM20 per kg); and pork — lean and fat (RM19 per kg).
