Two claim trial to 3 drug-related offences

KUCHING: A man and a woman charged with three counts of a drug-related offence claimed trial in a magistrates’ court here yesterday.

Lee Meng Yiew from Sibu and Megumih Abdullah from Taman Haji Baki here appeared before Magistrate Ahmad Dzulfadzli Hamdan who released them on RM5,000 court bail in two sureties.

The court fixed May 26 for further mention of the case.

For the first charge, the duo allegedly possessed 41.98g of Ketamine, 5.08g Methamphetamine and 1.84g Ecstasy when arrested around 11am at a house in Kampung Cemerlang, Airport Road here on May 13.

They will be tried under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, punishable under Section 13 of the same Act.

Two of the charges provide a fine up to RM100,000 or imprisonment if convicted under Section 13 of the same act.

For possessing 5.08g of Methamphetamine, they face imprisonment up to five years and a maximum of nine strokes under Section 39A(1) of the same code.

The couple faces another charge under Section 6 of the same Act for allegedly possessing 11g cannabis, punishable under the same Section with a fine up to RM20,000 and imprisonment term up to five years or both upon conviction.

Inspector Ahmad Ilias prosecuted while both accused were unrepresented.
