50 million Indonesian need to have wedding documents

PELAIHARI: Director of the Religious Courts Administration of Supreme Court (Badilag MA)) Dr H Hasbi Hasan, MH said, more than 50 million people in Indonesia do not have wedding documents or buku nikah and birth certificates or akta kelahiran yet, although they are important for children go to school and for many interests, Antaranews reported.

“In addition, more than 700,000 citizens in foreign countries like Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Egypt and even in America have no legal identity,” said Hasbi Hasan, during a visit to Tanah Laut District on Thursday (21/5).

According to him, the absence of personal and legal identity has come to emergency phase, because tens of millions of people can not take legal actions, thereby inhibiting the interests of the community.

“Children go to school inhibited, sign up for an employee both public and private hampered, couple could not perform banking transactions, sale and purchase transactions, and other transaction,” he said.

In addition, he said, people also can not get a share of joint property, the division of inheritance, visa and so forth.

“Therefore, one of the efforts made by Badilag MA, namely marriage ithbat (determination or to document marriage) abroad, as well as Central Jakarta Religious Court has made several marriage ithbat trial in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia,” he said.

Then, he went on, in the country Religious Court gradually ithbat almost all parts of Indonesia. It is estimated approximately 10 thousand marriage couples documented legally.
