China: Malaysia’s right to implement immigration rules

BEIJING: China respects Malaysia’s move to implement its immigration rules based on its own rule of law, indicating that the world’s second largest economy has nothing to do with the barring of Hong Kong student activist Joshua Wong from entering Malaysia.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying said she did not understand the details of the issue despite coming across the news report.

“Malaysia has its own right to carry out its immigration rules,” she told a press briefing here yesterday without further elaboration.

Immigration director-general Datuk Mustafa Ibrahim was reported as saying that Wong was denied entry into Malaysia yesterday upon arrival at the Penang International Airport as he was on the list of individuals banned from entering the country. — Bernama
