KAPIT: Natives with NCR land gazetted as Bumiputera communal reserve under Section 6 of Sarawak Land Code have exclusive rights and ownership over the land.

Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi announced this when officiating at the presentation of Bumiputera Communal Reserve Gazette and Temporary Occupation Licence (TOL) for Phase II of Song Resettlement Scheme and the Village Extension Scheme in Song District held in Song recently.

“With the issuance of the land gazette, the landowners need not have to worry anymore on any encroachment to their land by any logging company or plantation operators as the gazette is a proof of your boundary and ownership to the said NCR land. This is one of the government’s policies to recognise ownership of NCR land,” he said.

As such, the Kapit MP advised the people to allow the Land and Survey Department to carry out perimeter survey of their NCR land.

“Give your full cooperation to the Land and Survey Department for the perimeter survey of your NCR land that has been approved by the government. Whatever size of NCR land that has been approved, just take it, as you can apply for the survey of the remaining piece of your NCR land to the government,” he told them.

He commended NCR landowners in Song District especially those under Ng. Katibas/Sg. Tekalit Song for allowing their NCR land of some 337 hectares to be surveyed.

“Now that the land has been gazetted this should serve as an example to other landowners to give their full cooperation to the Land and Survey Department to carry out perimeter survey of their NCR land,” he pointed out.

At the same time, he told the people to keep their land for their future generations and develop them to generate income.

On the presentation of TOL for Phase II of Song Resettlement Scheme and the Village Extension Scheme at Song District, Nanta said it was one of the government’s efforts and initiatives to provide a decent home for those from low-income group.

“In addition, the government also develops Village Extension Scheme to cater for the increase in number of families in traditional villages. Meanwhile, the Resettlement Scheme was set up to cater for those living in squatter areas, fire victims and victims of natural disasters such as landslide.

“The resettlement and village extension schemes are equipped with basic infrastructure like road, proper drainage system and utilities such as electricity and water supply,” he said.

At the function, Nanta presented Bumiputera Communal Reserve Gazette to five longhouses in Song district covering an area of 337 hectares at Nanga Katibas, Sungai Tekalit.

Nanta also presented Temporary Occupation Licence (TOL) titles to 61 families under Phase II of the Song Resettlement Scheme and 24 families for Phase II of the Village Extension Scheme.
